The object of a mission is really no different from the object of the Christian life, i.e. to know, love, and serve God and our neighbor in this life. The experiences that take place in a mission are essentially no different from the common Christian experiences that take place in the parish, i.e. Mass, the Sacraments, the reading of Holy Scripture, Prayer and Preaching.
The distinctive thing about a mission is that it is a focused and concentrated effort for a short period of time. It is like a spiritual retreat. A parish mission is a time of deep conversion and growth. The missionary will stir the hearts of all with the supreme evidence of God's love for man: the Incarnation, the Crucifixion and Resurrection, and Holy Communion. In short, with love for Jesus Christ.
