The Sacrament of Marriage
A Sacred Bond
The Sacrament of Marriage is a visible sign of God’s eternal love for His Church. When a man and a woman unite in Holy Matrimony, they enter a covenant blessed by God—receiving the grace to live a life of unity, fidelity, and love.

Marriage Preparation Process
To help you build a strong, faith-filled foundation, please follow these steps:
- Schedule an Intake Meeting
Begin with an initial meeting with Deacon Ted Rotunda. Call the parish office at 760-689-6200 to make an appointment.
This step must be completed before booking your wedding date. - Begin Early
Start your preparation at least six months before your desired wedding date. - Personalized Guidance
A deacon or staff member will be assigned to guide you throughout the preparation journey.
Required Documents for Marriage Preparation
As you prepare to receive the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony, the Church requires the following documents to complete your marriage file:
**Pre-Nuptial Examination**
Completed during your first meeting with the priest, deacon, or Marriage Coordinator. This helps the Church confirm your freedom to marry and your readiness for marriage.
**Baptismal Certificates**
Catholic parties must provide a newly issued Baptismal Certificate (within 6 months of the wedding date) from the church where they were baptized. Please request it **for marriage purposes** so sacramental notations are included.
**First Communion and Confirmation Certificates**
Required if these sacraments are not already noted on your updated Baptismal Certificate.
**Freedom to Marry Affidavits**
Two affidavits are required for each person, confirming that you are free to marry. These are usually completed by parents or someone who has known you for many years.
**Civil Marriage License**
A valid marriage license must be obtained before the wedding ceremony. If you are already civilly married, please provide a copy of your marriage certificate.
**Marriage Preparation Certificates**
Additional documents may be completed throughout your marriage preparation process and added to your marriage file.
Please contact the parish office with any questions. We are happy to accompany you as you prepare to celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony.
