Ministry of Altar Servers

Altar servers provide an invaluable service to the presider and the assembly at all Masses and special liturgies. Their ministry helps create a reverent and prayerful environment as we gather at the Lord’s table.

Who can be an altar server?

  • Anyone 10 years of age or older who has received First Communion
  • Active and faithful members of the Church
  • Reliable, attentive, and willing to be fully trained

Is this ministry just for children or youth?

Not at all! We welcome people of all ages to serve. In fact, we encourage whole families to participate together at the same Mass whenever possible. What better way to live your faith than to serve God as a family at the altar?

Responsibilities of an altar server

  • Carry the thurible, cross, candles, and books in procession
  • Assist the presider by bringing vessels, water, wine, and missal to the altar
  • Hold the appropriate books for the presider during prayers and readings
  • Help clear the altar after Communion

How do I become an altar server?

  • Attend an initial training session (may be offered in parts if needed)
  • Begin serving alongside experienced servers until confident and ready
  • Participate in periodic updates and refresher trainings when announced

This ministry is not only about service but also about deepening your faith, growing in reverence for the liturgy, and becoming a visible witness of discipleship in our parish community.
